Default Shackle replacement

So the rear shackle on my 98 busted and went through the bed, and the spring is still sitting above the frame. Do I just need to get weight off it and manhandle it back into place?

i doubt you can man handle that leaf spring. I would take it off and put it back in place. is the front shackle damaged?

There should only be a spring shackle on the rear along with a spring hanger off the frame. Only a spring hanger in the front. You'll need jacks to accomplish this job.

Yes, Just lift the rear of the truck by the frame. Replace the broken parts. Inspect the shackle mount as these rust and break also. Install new shackle and bolts and drive on.
If you need the shackle mount there are plenty of kits that include the mount, shackle, and bolts.

If you have 5 lug wheels:

Yep, been there done that ^^^ . I caught them before they snapped fortunately, purchased those exact Dorman replacements. If your just replacing the shackles, a 5" cut-off wheel fits in there just perfect for removal. Quick and easy.

EDIT: Yea a 4" is a little too small preventing you from cutting through the bolts. A cut-off is most definitely the tool for the job. Sawzall loaded up with a good bi-metal blade (GreenLee) would be second choice.

That bottom bolt is in there good. I tried putting something behind while i turned it and that only helped so much. I'll try the pickle fork see if that will get it to move
