Default Service Engine Soon Light

Hey,

I bought my truck used a couple weeks ago, so far its drove great with no issues whatsoever. However the service engine soon light is solidly illuminated yellow. The previous owner said it comes on every X kms to remind you to change the oil, he said he changed the oil and didnt reset the light. I checked the oil and it is fresh. Local places around me want 90-100$ to pull the error codes from it and id rather not. I was wondering if what he said sounds true (if the light does come on for oil changes) and how you reset the light. Thanks for any help.

No, there should not be a light for oil changes. Your truck has thrown a code. I know Autozone in my area will check the code for free. Not sure where you are...

there are about 3000 possible parameters....dont start buying parts until you post an OBDII code and we can go from there.

Big difference between service engine soon and check engine lights...if its for an oil change your owners manual will tell you how to re-set it...a service engine soon light will not throw OBII codes...it is a service reminder. My wifes 4 runner has this and is re-set by turing on the key to ACC while holding the trip re-set with the mileage shown in the odometer.

Take it to autozone and have them Check it for free.. Most parts stores will check the codes for you.. But now most wont clear the codes.. you can clear the codes by d/c the battery... These trucks do not have a oil change light.. Well my 98 didnt have one... and my 02 or 08 doesnt have one...

That's a Toyota, not a Ford. My Audi allroad is the same way, service reminders are different from check engine.

At first I thought I had a dead check engine bulb on my '01 F150, until I realized "service engine soon" is Ford's idea of a check engine light.
