Hi,
I am in Norway and the selection of parts for US trucks is poor (almost every pickup is a Japanese or Korean dieselburner.
I have a few "issues" with my recently acquired F-150. Even California trucks suffer from the disintegrating sills ailment. The sills are of course gone like they all are, but more importantly the body-to-frame supports that are about in the middle under the doors on both sides are basically shot. A previous knucklehead tried to cover it up with bondo but the deficiency is so grave that the DMV did not approve the truck for registering at all.
Do the body "elbows" come pre-made by someone or should I just make the replacements myself? I need pointers and names, the few Norwegian truck shops have poor webshops and I haven't found the parts on any US shop either.
I have new outer sills coming, I will make the inner sills myself. The bed has some holes on the inside over the axle, I will cut out the cancer and patch with panels myself.
Some snaps here:
Yea, nobody has the "body elbows" or under body supports. You'll have to either fab/repair what's left, or cut some out at a salvage yard. The body panels are still available though....new replacements.
Thanks guys, I am cutting out some botched repairs from the seller and am going to replace the under body support with some home-made reproductions. Looks like the seller had some 4-5mm steel plate lying around that they felt would do the job and made a few plate patches and right-angle supports that look terrible. Then tried to cover up the misdeed with copious amounts of fibreglass bondo. It would be better if they did nothing, then my job would be easier. As it is now I have to cut out all this **** work in order to get to original and clean metal before I can fix it...
taking a peek on the c pillar next to the rear seat bench. Looked good on the outside, that part of the sill was not crusty. Wrong. The drain holes were not at the lowest point, so humidity has accumulated in the bottom and the whole bottom was paper thin. Especially evident where the panels were overlapping instead of butted.
Since the sills, body supports and now the side support has been found to be deficient, one can only imagine how this thing would look after a rollover.
It should also set of alarm bells among the imbeciles patching sills with plastic covers or just cover up and weld new steel on top (bottom) of this ****...
While waiting for my spot welder I thought I'd address the non functioning parking brake. The cable wasn't attached in the back, and when I got the drum /disc off i got a peek at the shoes.
Not a sign of any friction material. Not even dust.
