Question Rust Busting!

Hey everyone, ive heard of a few people doing some "rust busting" and just wanted to know what that all entailed. i have some rust showing up on my underside (haha no pun intended) and i would like to send it to hell. whats the best way to do this?

im guessing sanding with steel wool then painting rustolium over it?

but when i sand the rust away, am i removing any protective coating?

thanks

I also would like some info on this. Is it better to sand and wire brush the rust and then paint it, or to use a spray on undercoating that we cans of at the dealership I work for?

theres only one way to get rid of rust, and thats to cut it out. rust never sleeps.

If it is surface rust scrubbing it down with a wire brush and then using the Rustoleum rust to primer converter should make everything happy. I had some minor surface rust on the under carriage of my pickup that I did that to and so far so good. I also did an over coating of the Rustoleum under carriage coating as others had suggested and it seems to be pretty solid. If it is nasty body rust then yeah big cube 426 is correct.

I had to replace my sending unit on my 'ol 84 Bronco, tank had
surface rust all over it. I wire brushed it, and got "rust convertor",
don't remember the brand of it, but O'Reilly's sells it, takes awhile
to dry, but then rattle canned it with black rustoleum. Seems to
have done the trick.

I've used 'rust destroyer' on the inside of my car which had quite a bit of surface rust about 17 years ago and still very sound today, so now I use it on spot rust on that comes up and seemes to do the trick purty good. There is a little stick you can buy, not sure of the brand name, but it is little fiberglass bristles and is made for small spot rust spots and you use this stick to clean out the rust then apply that Rust Destr.... and then colormatch paint stick, of course this is for small jobs and prevention!!
