Default Rocker replacement question

Drivers side. Holes visible are through metal

Black is running board.
Hey All,

New to the group, just bought a 2002 supercrew 4.6 rockers need replacing, but unsure if the pictures are what is considered inner rocker or if it is part of the frame. Picture is taken from where outer rocker should be. Any help and repair recommendations appreciated!

that is pretty rough. is normal for these trucks to do that. imo, that rust is to far gone and beyond repair (for a reasonable price) you could get an estimate but you are not going to like what your told. have you overlooked the frame yet?

No issues with frame. Truck was in GA most of its life, those are only rust spots on the truck. My buddy is a welder and already said hed do it for me if i order the parts, just want to make sure I order the right ones. Obviously need outer rockers (pair is 230 for oem on ebay). Just need to know what the other part is to order as well.

I purchased my replacement rocker panels from Raybucks in Pennsylvania. Browns in Wisconsin also has them.
Your rocker panels will rust out LONG before you will have frame issues. IMO

Thanks all! I found outer rockers but had difficulty finding inner rockers for an '02. I'll have to dog deeper on raybucks online page.

I had my sheet metal guy make them. You are referring to the vertical plate on the back for the rocker panel with the rubber plugs in them?

I'm currently going through this now. I cut out the bad sections and welded on 1/8" stock over the holes as patches to cover the gaps. I wire-wheeled as much loose surface rust off the rest of the solid sections and hit it with rust reformer and then a layer of undercoating. My target is 6 to 7 more years or another 90,000 miles, whichever comes first. I think my patches with the coating will hold up that long.

It depends how much good sheet metal is left up there... hopefully you have enough to work with.

Oh, I'm also going to put mudflaps on all four corners and I'm not putting the nerf bars back on. I think nerfs and running boards add too many places for road salt and grit to cake on and eat away at the spot welds that hold the inner and outer panels together.
