Default Replacing Vacuum Hoses as regular maintenance?

In March I purchased an '03 F-150 5.4 with ~240k miles. You guys have been a great help in pointing me to some basic maintenance. Prior to this work the most I'd done on cars was swapping out head units in my late Teens.

What I'm wondering is if replacing vacuum lines should be part of my 240k maintenance, or is that something I shouldn't both with until there's an issue? I do have this slight whine at all times, but it's hardly noticeable. Doesn't get louder or quieter under load. And the brake pedal will, sometimes, just go all the way to the floor (while actually braking). Lastly, I have a shudder when accelerating & turning from a stop (but not when only accelerating straight ahead).

Just for S&G here's what I've done so far.
  • Air filter
  • Installed cabin air filter
  • Cleaned MAF, IAT, throttle body
  • hood supports
  • PCV Valve
  • all 4 O2 sensors
  • drive belt
  • idler pulley
  • tensioner & pulley
  • water pump
  • front control arms
  • front sway bar links
  • all 4 shocks
Prior to purchase the spark plugs and coils were replaced, as well as fuel filter. It has a rebuilt transmission, recently installed (last 12 months).

So far so good. I don't plan on putting more than 2k miles on the truck each year so I hope it would last 10+ more years. I just want to get everything up to snuff so that when something goes awry I can pinpoint it quickly.

I replaced my vacuum hoses on my rig, glad I did. just do one at a time...for the shudder, maybe change the rear axle fluid and add the friction modifier if you have a limited slip rear
and get the brakes checked out

Is there a good reference of the various hoses? I'm totally clueless about them and which should be replaced.

Thank you guys. Are vacuum lines universal & cut-to-fit?

A repair can be made/sectioned, emission lines (mini-tube) are pre-bent, there isn't a supplier. Haven't you looked at them on the engine? Rarely would you replace them in the emission harness itself. Ford has a mini - tube repair procedure you use if they break or burn. You can replace the rubbers on the ends. Usually that isn't needed unless you hose them down with carb cleaner looking for a leak. Yea, carb cleaner creates leaks lol.

The lines you replace are PCV system lines and fuel vapor lines on the throttle body elbow as they wear out.
