Default Replacing Coil Pack..and boot?

I have a 99 F150 4.6L 212,xxx miles.

Cylinder 2 is misfiring, so I'm going to order a new coil pack from rock auto and hope thats the issue.

I searched for 30 minutes and could not find an answer. If my truck is misfiring and I am replacing the coil pack, do I order the Coil Pack only or the boot(COP?) as well?

I want to order the Coil Pack ASAP but don't want to place the order if I need both.

Thanks1

Yea, you don't have a COP Ig system on that engine. Just to be clear and since you posted it in question above.

Not sure how to answer the question, - it's more of what you want to do personally.

I'll explain your system real quick,

1. 2 coil packs (That's it). Each running a pack of 4 cylinders.

2. You have Spark Plug wires for that specific model/year...8.

You can either try to get away cheap, - or update the ignition system if you have over, - say , 100,000 miles or so.

First, you have to determine what is wrong with it. Do the easy checks first. = Check plug and wire. Make sure the plug chamber isn't holding water.

Thanks for the great reply JBrew!!

Ok, well I have had the truck for 40k miles, so I'm just going to replace all that could be causing the misfire. That way it will be fixed, haha and hopefully my truck will be running well!

So what exactly would I need? I have never changed spark plugs, etc.
I'm thinking wire set, 2 coil packs and plugs. Should I go OEM or other recommendations? Am I missing anything?

As for plugs I saw OEM; Nickel, and double Platinum. Which plugs yall think?

Idk which Wire set to go for but I have my eye set on OEM for $65, and Bosch for $53. For some reason the Bosch specs sound better...(Maybe cause OEM says nothing. haha)

And Coil Packs... Rockauto has a few for $20ish, a good bit for $50-60. Motocraft is $60 a pop, what do yall recommend?

Thanks a lot for the help guys!

Get all motorcraft. Bosch is crap. Personally, I prefer Ford Racing wires. Cost a little more but worth the money.

I upgraded with MSD packs, Ford Racing wires, and Iridium plugs. It's about a $250-300 investment, but you'll notice a little extra kick in performance, but even better, a slight bump in MPG. You can find some deals on eBay, both for the individual parts, or for an entire kit for this swap.

Thanks for all in the info guys! I like ebay but I never like ordering engine components off ebay.. Just cause the HIDs I got off their sucked!!! haha
But I'd buy some ford racing stuff it its legit.

Ok so on rockauto I was about to order; 8 double Plat. Plugs, 1 Wire Set, air filter, and 2 coil packs. All Motocraft, came to $250. Before placing the order.. should I order the coil packs..?

IDK whats causing my misfire and didn't check since I'm changing it all out. If Cylinder 2 and only 2 is missing could it be the coil pack since it controls 4 cylinders? Basically should I spend the $135 on the coil packs..? If so I'd like a improvement. haha

You can hold off on the packs. If it's still skipping after you change out everything then drop thec $135. Nothing wrong with that.
