remote start
just bought a 97' f150 supercab and im having trouble with a bulldog remote start i got for for xmas. i followed the instructions in the book but for some reason my truck is idling low and even dying when i stop at redlights. never done this before installation. i have 2 accessory wires that i wired together as the instructions said. this is a tachless install. is this a common problem? how do i fix it? please help
The remote start really shouldnt have anything to do with it. When i did my install i did wire up the tach wire. That way the system knows where the truck is idling at. Some kits also come with a feature to make it a tachless install. But when you dont wire the tach wire, some kits you have to turn that feature off so that its not looking for that tach input. Could be wrong but thats my best guest because mine never had that problem. The only problem i had was once in awhile the safety relay for the remote start would stick, so when i turned the key off the truck stayed running until the relay opened back up and shut the truck off. I'm tearing my remote start out because i never used it.
I forgot to add, depending on how you wired it up you could just unplug the module and try running the truck regularly and see if it does it. If it still does it, you know its not the remote start itself.
I've done hundreds of remote starts and it shouldn't have any effect on the truck after you put it in gear (actually after you turn the key and tap the brake) I had the same problem with my truck, it was the idle air control valve. I think it was about $60 and pretty easy to replace.

Ok, I figured it out, nothing is wrong, I removed the neg battery terminal before i wired in the remote start. Doing so reset the PCM. All I really had to do was drive the truck until the PCM re-learned the operating settings needed. Took about 20 miles give or take, suddenly started running great.
wanna say thanks to Black'd F150 and BigStrip for helping me trouble shoot and figure it out without going to the shop.
