If you try to half @$$ it from the outside, all you will do is make more work for yourself down the road when you have to re-do it because it still leaks. Been there, done that.

Sealed correct, the plastic surround isn't even needed.
If I didn't make it clear enough the first time, use the Butyl tape.

Did I mention Butyl tape is the best way to do it?????

Hey skizriz mentioned butyl tape I'm not sure if you caught that or not so I thought I'd mention it... Lol ya I was gonna try that but couldn't find any that's why I went with the window weld. If that doesn't last next time I'll have to try the butyl tape , but so far so good.

You're right that that's where the water comes in at. Not where the plastic meets the cab where everybody fill with silicone and makes a mess of everything.![Censored](https://www.f150forum.com/images/smilies/censored.gif)

This is exactly why I had mine replaced professionally, warranty. If it leaks they replace it. No wasted time, no wasted money.

I just did mine on my Screw slider about a week ago. I used 5/16" 3m butyl tape. Came in a 15ft roll box, and I had some left over. Cleaned everything off good and re-tightened bolts in a criss cross pattern , like you would tighten a wheel, in 2 or 3 stages. No leaks.
After I got the old one out I could see the 3" place the original seal had given up the ghost.
The stuff I used was like this:

This is why I did mine I had a solid back window and wanted a slider picked one up from lkq for $75 and installed it myself, first time I ever did it was not hard I just screwed up and didn't use enough sealant. Pull out your back trim and there are 12 bolts that hold the window in, remove them then take a small pry bar and work it between the sheet metal and the window frame and it will pry out pretty easy. Clean it put on new sealant and put it back in. DO NOT worry about the outside plastic trim it has nothing to do with the window removal or install. Go for it and good luck.

This is incorrect you can take out the plastic trim without touching the window but there is no need to unless you just want to take it out to paint it or something, but you do have to remove the interior trim and remove the nuts to get it out.
