My 97 has the towing package but I`d like to put 250 springs under it . There`s a 98 250 at the bone yard but im thinking new springs.
Any advice would be helpful.
Rock Auto has 98 250 springs for about 168 each.
If the F-250 have the same body style as your F-150 they'll fit, but if it's the superduty the spring will be too wide.
I put F-250LD (or F-150 7700 series, same thing) On my '97 then put an AAL in for added measures and definitely never looked back. I overloaded that truck a lot and those springs sure held up to the task.
Unless your springs are bad though, there's no real reason to replace them. You can throw an AAL in and you'll have the same leaf pack as the F-250 LD, or throw 2 AAL's in just for rear height. I replaced mine because I lifted my truck and had axle wrap which flattened my springs.

Excuse my ignorance , but what is AAL?
The springs appear to be ok but I do haul heavy loads of firewood in it and just wanted to beef them up.
AAL is Add A Leaf for those of us too lazy to spell it out lol. If your springs are still arched, I'd just put in a set of AAL's, I think a set costed me $50 from Rough country and you'll have the same spring pack as a F-250LD.
Ok sounds like a plan.
Springs are still arched but how do you tell if they`re past the point of no return?
With the AAL option what hardware do I need?
As for what's good and not so good, I wish I had a better pic but can you see how the two leafs are laying on that bottom leaf? The top two should be arched and the bottom one is what is referred to as an overload spring, basically this is how my suspension should look if I had the truck loaded down. The second pic is closer to how they should look in brand new perfect condition. These are older truck with older technology so it won't have as much arch but you get the idea. My old springs didn't really need to be replaced, I could've went to a suspension shop and had them re-arched but I found the F-250 and it was easier for me to just swap springs and since I still had the AAL, I just threw it in too.
It was a few years ago since I did it but I don't remember much difference in ride quality if there was any at all. My truck was also lifted on 35's though so it already had a stiffer suspension than a stock truck.
