Been a bit since I posted last with the tranny issue (got that all resolved) and I have been loving the truck. However I recently was married and am in a pickle. The older model F series didn't exactly have the most grateful backseats, so I am needing to part with my 97 to move up to a current gen, 11-14, with a roomier cab and more efficient engine.
My question to you guys is what exactly can I expect to get for it either by a 3rd party sell or if anyone has any trade in experience.
It's a 97 supercab long bed, with the 4.6 and auto tranny, and only has 109k miles. XL trim so everything is pretty basic, A/C can freeze you out and has a newer model stereo. One year old tires and rims and no leaks or rust of any kind. Only issue is it was backed into in a parking lot in Oct 2012 and the front quarter panel / bumper could use some love.
TL;DR
Need a new truck, selling mine. Blue Books for around $5200. What's a realistic expectation?
I would say 5200 is a good price, I paid 5k for my truck (1997 F-150 XLT, 4x4 auto trans) it is a short bed ext cab (i'll post pics of it the day I bought it), it had 160k miles, about 95% tread on some 245's highway tires, switched them out in the first month lol. My truck is also on a rebuilt title, I don't have any dents as big as the one you have, I have a fold in m drivers side fender that is about 3" long.
What transmission do you have (auto or manual?), and are you 4x4?

A 97 2wd xl regardless of shape or millage or anything else wouldn't go for more then 3k here and that'd be like perfect condition yours would probly be worth around 1500 to the right seller although most the people that want a long box extended cab just want it for a work beater so 1500 might be high
Thanks for all the answers. The $5200 was the KBB "Good" Price with the "Fair" price around $4800. Mechanically everything is smooth operating now and it's averaged 6500 miles a year. Guess I shouldn't have that high expectations out of a 17 year old vehicle. Probably still get more selling than I would for trade in I would imagine.
you can always start high and go down.. but you cant start low and get more.. I see them asking anywhere from $2000 to $7000.. Its usually the ones in rough shape asking more.
