Radio problem
I've Searched but no luck so I am now asking:
'99 XLT 4x4 4.6 V8 automatic 174,000
Several days ago the radio just stopped and there is no display on the window.
I removed the fuse and several others and nothing changed but after a while I tried it again and it came back on and no lost time or stations.
The next morning it would not come on, no display, but later in the day it came back, with no lost time.
Yesterday it came back while driving but then was on then off several times, but not on now.
Everything in the truck seems to work except the total entertainment unit.
I can't figure why nothing gets lost when it goes off and it will not play.
Feel free to point me to a place in the formu that might help me with this.

Just for grins I might try looking inside the unit, then to the used parts lot for a replacement if I do not find anything.
To remove the dash panel is that just a hard pull to get it loose? I was afraid to yank it and break it.

It has been mentioned to me that the switch (relay?) after the ignition switch could be my problem. Is it possible the audio relay is my problem when everything that runs off it seems to be working properly?
Not going to replace the radio until I know there is proper voltage getting to the radio itself.
Is there a trick to getting the radio panel off or is it just a grab and ******.

Turn the vents in towards the center. This will allow you to grab the panel and pull. To remove the radio you will need to purchase or fabricate a special tool. Check out your local stores for the tool. Here is a link with a "how to" on the tool. http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/213/77/

Two options: sometimes radios have a dedicated fuse on the back of the unit for the backlight (not sure which radio you have). Second take it to your local cb radio shop at the closest truck stop those guys can usually fix solder type problems cheaper than the cost of a new radio.
