Radio ID question
Regarding the 01 XLT SuperCrew I recently bought it has a cheap touch screen radio in it I don't want. I've looked everywhere and can't find how to determine what exactly the radio/CD configuration was so I can locate a used factory radio. Does any one know how I can find out using my VIN short of going to the dealership which is 1 1/2 hour away. Any help would be appreciated. Note after reviewing listings of truck for sale like min it appears to be a A/M/F/M/Single CD radio that doesn't need a program code to activate it but I'm not 100% sure.

The stock radios in these trucks do not have any type of code. Buy whatever you want and it will work (so long as your harness was not hacked up by the previous radio install).
Thanks I thought so on the code issue. I've been able to pretty much ID everything else on the truck using the VIN. I was just hoping to be able to actually ID the radio that came in it. Thanks
If you want to go with the single disc CD, rare in 01 with XLT model, here is an ideal unit from eBay. It is actually for a 2002 car, but it is the same radio that the Lariat's would get. This uses the factory oem wiring plugs and is plug and play to your truck. Hope this helps you.

I have the lariat stereo from 2003. Same as above
perfect shape....might part with
I will say this...the factory radio sounds better than my current radio. Pioneer radios are cheap crap today with little stereo channel separation....sounds like **** playing mp3 from thumbdrive too. Sounds great playing bluetooth from my phone. Its phone + amp.
Ford factory radio sounded really good.
I quit listening to the radio when I took it out.

not a lot of the Canadian models either. If the VIN starts with a 2, you are out of luck period before 2009. The 2004 USA up, minus Heritage, is still spotty until 2009 or thereabouts. I got my 2007 Mustang window sticker in 2012, but it's not available now on the site. I'm glad I grabbed it when I first found it. I was able to pull up a buddies 2010 F150 (KC made) but not their Edge which is 2013 and Canadian made. It's kind of a crap shoot.
In my 03, I have the in dash AM/FM 6 disc changer and love having it. Never have to worry about changing discs while going down the road.
