Default Rabid Zombie Ghost Squirrels!!!

I'm having issues with my 1997 three-door XLT. I just picked this thing up for $400.00. (No need to list what was wrong with it when I got it,..... just what's wrong NOW ).

I was blaming my G.E.M. for my lack of 4WD, so I got a transplant from a cadaver vehicle. ($10.00, couldn't beat it). But the donor vehicle was a 1999, mine is a 1997. (You already knew that).

Well,..... the transplant was obviously not compatible with my system. The windshield wipers wouldn't shut off, I lost my turn signals, the dash showed me the "Low Range" light, but I'm not certain that the transfer case actually shifted, there were other symptoms that I don't remember..... the truck was freaking out. So I put the old G.E.M back in. NOW, my wipers work again, and the "Low Range" light is off..... but I completely lost my whole instrument cluster, my turn signals, the heater/ac blower fan, and my 4wd still won't shift. (On-the-fly switch on the dash). And the best part is, when I turn the key off, the engine stays running.....

..... UNTIL I OPEN THE DOOR!!!

(THEN the engine shuts off).

.....Can anyone confirm that I shorted out the G.E.M,..... or could the problem be the PCM?

Or have the Rabid Zombie Ghost Squirrels come back to finish me off???!!!

.....(Sorry,..... I'll go take my meds, I know I'm a little late).

*Late Edit* ..... Last night, my Kid borrowed my truck to go to the junkyard for parts for his Dodge Neon, and while he was there...the transfer case just magically shifted into low range, on it's own. He called me and asked how to shift it into high range, (as the switch doesn't work), and I told him to take out the shifter motor and turn the shaft clockwise until it stops. (With the engine running and in neutral). He told me he was too exhausted after his efforts at the junkyard, so he just drove it home at 30mph. (With no turn signals..... good thing he didn't get a ticket).

I need this truck to get to work. I hope to get rid of the Zombie Squirrels, soon.

It figures,..... the only problem with this truck after I started driving it was the 4WD wouldn't work.

..... THEN I started working on it.

I practically stole this truck.

The only thing wrong with it was a little rust. The gas-tank straps rusted through and the tank fell out. The previous owner used a short piece of chain to put it back in place. (It was horrible). I also had to replace all the brake lines front to back. They were so rusty, they were wet in spots where they were bleeding through.

The guy was my Kid's track coach in High School. And he was not very mechanically inclined. This truck sat in his yard for almost a year. He was sick of mowing around it and was glad to get rid of it.

It was a great truck until I started messing with the GEM module.

(It's still a great truck).

DAMNIT!!!

I got my turn signals and my instrument cluster back.

.....(No, that's not what I'm bitchin' about).

Those two huge wire-harness connectors that attach to the back of the fuse panel? The ones that are held in with two 10mm bolts?

.... Yeah,..... After swapping out the GEM Module, I neglected to tighten the bolts up, so I wasn't getting a complete connection from the fusebox to my wiring harness.

Well,...... I still have no 4WD, and I still have to open the door to shut the engine off.

So, I'm still looking for a GEM module.

And I thought I had too many things going on at once lol.

You changed the brake hoses right ? Just sayin, if fluid was being forced thru certain fittings, the rubber/silicon lines are plugged. They tend to do that.

Sounds like the GEM for sure..I guess it COULD be a weak battery. Yea, they can get all possessed when weak as well.

Okay,..... NOW I'm not certain that I have the right GEM, to begin with.

I went to the local Ford Dealership and cross-referenced my part number.

The parts guy said that a El3Z-14b205-CRM (re-manufactured) will work in my truck as well as a F75B-12B205-CB. However..... when I look these numbers up on eBay, they all appear to come from a 4x2 truck.

..... Maybe my GEM was swapped out by the previous owner? And it came from a 4x2 truck, and that's why my 4WD doesn't work?

Anyone know what part number I'm SUPPOSED to have in a 1997 XLT?

EL3Z14B205CRM is 4X4 with ESOF.

I work in a Ford parts department and just got that out of our catalog. The list price on it is 115.73.

I do not know where he got that 2nd number at, it appears to be an engineering number but I cant find where it fits this truck.

MFM20RM is the motorcraft number and F85B14B205NA is the engineering number. Good luck on your search.
