Default Question on Catalytic Converter replacement.

My 2003 with the 4.2 is experiencing a severe rattle coming from the cat on the drivers's side (can hear it right under my feet). I took it to Midas (I know, but I'm totally clueless). They said the only thing they can do is replace the entire exhaust system at a cost of $1,800. Is there a way to replace only the bad converter?

Find a muffler shop that'll cut your cats off. Might cost around $100. Or if you need to keep the cats, they can just replace the bad cat. $1800 is ridiculous, you can get custom exhaust for literally 1/4th that price here.

Buy Magnaflow high flow cats off ebay they are cheap and dont clog up like the stock ones will. Just take ur new cats with you too the shop and have them replaced

For $1000 you could have headers, high flow cats, electronic cut outs, and mufflers (that includes the install price at a small muffler shop)
