Question about trouble with engine re-install
In early June I came here for advice on sticking a 99 5,4 into my 97 that had a 4.6, long story short it's not possible without swapping over the entire wiring from the 99 as well. Tore down the 4.6 and fixed it instead. so now wanting to put the 5.4 back in it's original home. Now for the question on the trouble, I get the engine back in, seemingly lined up with the transmission. The (fly wheel? it's an automatic) to torque converter studs/nuts all lined up and installed. The trans to engine bolts all lined up and installed. motor mounts lined up and installed. Should be good to go right? Wrong, engine is locked up and won't rotate. Yes, the sheet metal spacer plate between engine and tranny is there. Could it be backwards? It should only go on one way with the starter opening.
When I loosen the E to T bolts it turns over fine, leaving the torque converter nuts alone. I've never had this happen before, it's driving me nuts, anybody experience this before or know what the *%&# is going on?

I'm not sure about your question. Is this the same trans that was originally behind that 5four ? Start there I guess.
That simply isn't true.

So, took 5.4 out, now putting it back with no alterations. My 4.6 went back in slick as anything. as soon as I tighten tranny bolts on 5.4 it locks it up. So, if the torque converter nuts are aligned and installed wouldn't that indicate alignment of the rest of it if the other bolts can be installed? I'm stuck, did I miss something?
That's because it's much much easier than that. You don't use the 5fours PCM or any of it's wiring ,coils. Install the 5four into the 4six truck exactly how it was outlined in your previous thread... I read it over, it's all there. It's a piece of cake. This has been accomplished many times over in this generation of 150's and Expeditions in the past.
