Question for the 4WD'ers
Is the GEM initiated Automatic Four-Wheel Drive System (A4WD) found in the Expedition and Navigator compatible with the F150? Can the entire transfer case be used on the F150 or even can just the motor be installed in to the current F150 transfer case? Of course the harness and GEM Module would have to be adapted to the 150 but by looking at the 10th Gen wiring manual that seems pretty straight forward.
I'm thinking no because I can't find anything on this but there also doesn't seem to be any apparent reason why this won't work. With this system a 4WD truck will have an automatic 4WD system that offers torque sensing for wheels operating at different speeds.

F150 and Expy's use different part numbers for the GEM. Other than that, it should be an easy enough swap. Wiring should mount without any problems, so why not give it a shot. The AWD switch is different also, compared to the 4x4 switch. Even the mount tab on the radio surround is in a different spot, so you would need a new surround, OR a way to mount the AWD switch. so it fits the mount.
I appreciate the information. This isn't for me, just trying to help a kid with some options other than the Torsen's he wants but can't afford. Both driveshafts have Hall Sensors on them and I haven't been able to find anything on how they're mounted but even if brackets had to be fabricated that would be minor. Then again there are u-joints with magnets built in to them available from Autometer as speed sensors that would be convenient if they could be properly calibrated. The Expedition and Navigator information in my manuals is pretty thin so I'm on the extreme end of winging it right now.

I just ran a check on the drivelines and the 4.6 and 5.4 use different shafts. The Expy and 150 front shafts interchange per Hollander. The rear have different shafts for 4.6, 5.4 and auto leveling systems. Your's must be the auto level shaft, which would use a Hall Effect switch to initiate. It would not be necessary on a 150, as we don't have the leveling systems that the Expy/Gators have, nor the same rear suspension.
Thank you AK. I can get shafts done from a buddy at Watson for time and materials so I can help him there. I assume by what you're saying then they have independent rear suspensions? That would make this all a bit more interesting if that was added also along with putting the rear differential on a De Dion Tube rather than the springs.

Thanks again AK. Not interested in air ride. I teased the kids dad that I would get him rallying and I'm not sure if he was glad to hear that or not? I couldn't tell if his silent response to the comment was leering or something else. LOL With an independent though he could start working with the effects of sprung and unsprung weights, spring rates, instant center, roll center and steering weight. It's time to talk to his dad. I have to be careful though, I started all this with my granddaughter and it became not fun for her anymore.
