Purchased amp / sub box - x-mas questions

Thanks guys, he has new HERTZ speakers up front from his birthday 6 x 8's - running from the deck. We have the fader running towards the new speakers up front. The speakers in the extended cab are still stock.
I set the gain to normal, I did not run tests and read the tutorial but he is good with the sound. He is actually pretty pumped how it sounds. This is his first sub system in any vehicle so any sound he is pretty happy with.
My son is very conservative unlike me, I was burning up my tires the first night I got my license.

One more questions guys, he has Interstate MTP 65 battery almost 6 years old. After goofing around in the garage his truck seemed sluggish to start. How much pull does this amp have on a battery. Should I be thinking about replacing this battery. We are super cold in the Midwest.
thanks

A large amp playing with the truck off can suck a battery dry more quickly than one would think. There may be nothing wrong, but I'd suggest keeping an eye on it. After fully charged, most auto parts stores can test it's capacity and status. The first indication of a failing battery can be that the gauges peg to the right, then drop back down when starting.

Agree with Ohio...
I'd also make sure it is full of water. Once a year (in the fall) I go through all of my batteries and make sure the levels are good. Use distilled water.... not tap water.

But a good rule is never play the radio more than a few minutes without engine running, if you don't want surprises.
A new battery will crank truck when it's almost completely discharged, no ***** floating on hydrometer.
An old battery can require at least 1/2 to 3/4 charge reading to crank. And is depleted rapidly with stereo. 20 min will do it. Just because it works to start car after sitting overnight.......doesn't make it a good battery. Even bad batteries do that. Truth is , most don't replace battery until it doesn't do that anymore.

I checked it not running and got 12.4 V on the battery. I called Interstate they said it should be higher and age is showing. It seems to be turning over ok, I think to be safe we will probably change it out with a new one. We are super cold, next week temperatures look brutal and his truck will be outside in parking lot.

Replacing is always the safe bet, and at 6 years, I agree considering it is not a bad idea. I've had batteries go more than 8 years before starting to fail, though. Maybe I've just been lucky.
The Interstate store will/should test your battery (and they should also know how to do it correctly) before they agree to sell one to you. At least, that was the mantra at the one I worked for in 2016.

The battery in my Expy is getting weak... but I don't drive it enough to justify a battery until it's completely dead, lol. Owning and maintaining 5 vehicles makes a guy wait things out on a lesser driven vehicle.
