Purchased amp / sub box - x-mas questions
Stopped by the local shop and they had special on Pioneer amp and 2 subs with box. I worked out deal to get the box that will fit under my sons extended cab seats. So we will run RCA cables - hot wire from battery to amp and connect to new sub box. I am going to try and make him do all of this with help if needed.
My questions are where you guys run your hot cable coming from battery to amp, is there a hole in the fire wall you guys use.
not sure we will have room for amp with the box, do you guys put amp under driver or passenger seat.
I am old school and never had a sub set-up like this just ran 6 x 9 speakers in my Trans-am so trying to help out my son
thanks for any help - 2001 F150 extended cab - new pioneer deck for his birthday already installed

Dont skimp on wire for amps power.
Welding cable is high quality 100% copper , fine strand , and half cost of specialty wire . Every bit of voltage drop in power wire reduces amps output.
I ran mine in plastic loom down fender in engine compartment, under truck a couple inches, then up into a grommet in passenger floor, and into door wire channel to get to back of supercrew. Theres a ggrommet in firewall on passenger side, but i couldnt see how to feed wire thru it. Many people run across to driver side and thru firewall there.
Not as easy as it should be.......

I ran my power wire from the battery thru the driver side firewall, under the carpet straight back to the amp which I have upright behind the middle part of the seat.

Also i have used the grommets in the rocket panels, just use a drill pit to drill a hole, shove wires through then you can come in under the rocker panel foot covers and under the carpet. Used that for exterior lights

Just make a drip loop when you use that grommet.... it keeps water from following the wire into the cab. I made this graphic years ago showing what I mean, lol.

If running on driver side, that can introduce quite a bit of extra length (10'-15') depending on amp placement, and require larger guage wire too due to it $$. ( For instance if amp under passenger side rear). Also same for the sub wire if wanting to run on opposite side of power to avoid noise. Just some things to plan before buying wires imo. Install kits are often low quality aluminum wires and undersized too. Cheaper amps are rated at higher voltage, and great wires are necessary to get anywhere near decent power delivery from them. High quality amps are usually rated at lower realistic operating by voltage. For instance, a $1000 amp may be rated at 12v, a $150 may be rated at 14....not achievable.. really cheap < $100...even 16V= impossible).
I guess point is, when you start talking about real power, wires cannot be an afterthought. Until you know routing and length, you dont know what gauge you need. Many kits are poor to marginal with cca aluminum wire too.

Thanks for the replies, it looks like we will need to put the amp under the driver or passenger seat. The box that is coming will fit under his back seat and looks to take up much of the space. I really cant get in his truck much to check once I get the box. Just trying to get ideas on how to install on x-mas morning, he will be ready to install that day.

My amp is under my drivers seat.... and my little box sits under the back passenger side with it raised 1.5 inches. I am running two 6.5 Tang Band subs. Not familiar with the 2001 setup, but IIRC, the have more room by a tad.
What are you putting under there?
