Cool Proper gear size for 33's?

Need better gears. My truck is still a bit sluggish off the line - even with the supercharger. It can barely spin the tires from a dead stop.

What gear size are you guys recommending? I have 3.55's with 285/70/17 tires. I'm wanting something close to the stock ratio. A tad more acceleration than stock is OK. Just need a brand of gears that can handle the punishment from the eaton while still being DD'able with decent MPG. Ideas?

Also, how much should i expect to dish out for parts and labor for swapping out gears all the way around?

Thnx!

3:73s would be better, if you ever plan on doing 35" tires just do 4:10s

If you're looking to spin the tires, and can't right now at 3.55, you might as well jump up to 4.10's. Because doing this is going to cost you a grand minimum. And if you don't feel there is enough power with 3.73's, if you chose to upgrade to them, well then that was a waste of money.

Plus with 4.10's you can upgrade to a bigger tire later without having to worry so much. Only downside is 285's is only just shy of a 33" tire. So I don't know how much your gas economy is going to suffer. If you're getting 17 mpg now, you'll only be getting 14.5 mpg after. But then again if you go with a slightly bigger tire, you might gain some of that back. Hard to say.

Thnx! I was thinking 4.10's as well. Whats the best brand?

I wish i was getting 17MPG - I'm getting 11-12 MPG with 91 octane

If the stock gears will stand up to the massive boost then pretty much any aftermarket gears will. 450+tq and it won't spin the tires? My stock 5.4 will spin my 33" mud terrains. Yukon are good gears! 4:56s and you won't be able to keep the tires stuck and around town you'll be around 17 easy!

You can spin your 33's with stock gears? My setup can roast the tires pretty good when im going slow. But nothing from a stand still...My truck might be heavier? idk... Also the elevation may play into factor too. 4r100 also.

Here's a vid for fun i guess:

There is no difference between the BOSS 5.4 and a regular 5.4 from 03.. Also go with 4.10's. I'm running 3.73's and wish I had 4.10's..

Think he is calling the 5.4 a "boss"compared to the 4.6

I'm not sure either - I thought the actual "Boss" was a high output 5.0l mustang v8?
