Default Project Silver XL

This will chronicle the transformation of my new 2002 XL. I bought this truck after selling my '05 Supercrew (wanted to get rid of the payment). I was able to buy this truck and have some money left over for mods And better yet, no payment.

First off...wow is it hard to find a truck in this model year that isn't absolutely beat to hell. If it isn't beat, it's rusty. If it isn't beat or rusty, it's 2WD

This truck is a 1-owner 4WD Sport, 196,000 miles on the 4.6 but runs great. High miles, does have a little surface rust on the rockers (nothing too major in comparison to countless other trucks I looked at). Has everything I wanted: 4WD, V8, cruise control. Does not have things I don't care about: power locks and windows, sliding rear window. Things I like: rubber floor, manual 4WD lever!

Here are the preliminary plans:
- Herculiner bed, bottom 2 inches of rocker, front and rear bumpers (2 gallons of Herculiner on the way)
- JVC bluetooth stereo (on the way)
- New 4x4 decals
- 33" BF Goodrich A/Ts. I'll use either the stock 16" rims or some 18" FX4 rims left over from my 05
- Possibly torsion bar crank and lift shackles in the rear
- Change out grill
- Fix various dents and scratches

Nice! I'll be looking forward to how it turns out. I've got a silver supercab also, XLT version though. Here is mine, maybe it can give you a couple ideas to work with. I'll try to get a better lighted pic later. But anyway, welcome to the 10th gen family!

Yep, good luck with 'em too. 5x135 isn't that common of a bolt pattern. Stock wheels, FX4's or 03 heritage wheels are nice. I find the machined MB Gunner 5's fit these trucks nicely. Too bad they don't make them anymore.

There are always adapters if you feel comfortable with them. Locktite is a good idea

Wow I didn't even think about the bolt pattern....guess I'll be working with the stock rims then!! Any suggestion on tire size for the stock rims that come out to 32 or 33?
