Default Programming modules do they work?

I need a little help. I have a 2002 F150 5.4L automatic supercrew thats stock other then exhaust. On the weekends i am pulling a 21' travel trailor to the high country and need more power pulling the hills. Will a performance module help? I dont want to change out gears to much $$$$. This is my daily driver and if the programmer can help with gas milage even better.

Thanks
D.

A programmer will help, I've got the Edge CS and absolutely love it. I dont tow, although I do normally have anywhere from 300 - 700 lbs in the bed for work. It runs great and I get around 14mpg with the weight and I've got L.F.S.

They help some but unfortunately the 5.4 is a bit anemic when towing heavy loads, we tow a small two-horse trailer in these mountain roads and even with putting 4.10 gears in my truck it isn't no power house...

You are better off installing gears... I would go with 4.10 at the minimum .... 4.56 would be even better, if you do a lot of towing ...

if you are worried about gas mileage, 4.10s or 4.56 is the last thing I would do.

Not true in any way! I've gained several MPG since installing 4.10's vs my crappy 3.55's. Granted we tow often and have 35's on my truck either way a 4.10 is a great compromise gear that should be the lowest ratio installed in any real truck.

4.10's are great. I would take them over 3.55's or 3.73's any day. And yes, the programmer is a great addition to any vehicle. It's not going to make you do wheelies, or anything, but is a wise investment, in my opinion.

What is the best brand of programmer to get? Custome tunes or straight factory settings? I am all about keeping it simple.
