programming keys with forscan
Anyone here successfully used forscan to program key for our gen. trucks?
The forscan doesnt match ford procedure.
It wont work yet for me. Im thinking I have to erase both keys to make it work. Im a little queasy about doing that.
I got factory key cut, checked it fine with PATS DTC, followed procedures.
Its possible voltage is not high enough, they say sometimes to put on charger overnight, but my battery is fine so Im skeptical that makes difference.
Ford gives two procedures, with their tool. One for erase and program all keys.
And a different one for programming just another key. But with that add a key procedure, you start with the new key blank in ignition, which is not how forscan does it.
So Im thinking you must use the erase procedure first. Which forscan forum reveals is required on some vehicles.
Which if it dont work , is a big bill to tow to dealer and have them program the 2 keys.
gut check time.
Pay $100 or risk $300 or so.
Some locksmiths have PATS programmers too, they dont have to clone keys, but same thing. If something go wrong....ouch.

The login time is 10 minutes with the ford scan tool, is that the same with the forscan? I used the blank and original key for startup. Worked both ways. I would always try to program the same key twice. Second time the NGS would say already programmed. Got burned a couple times and had to wait while the 10 minute access was completed again. Sucks working flat rate. I'll offer my NGS, I rarely need it at work.
Time is similar for sure,
It grants access, i can read keypad code
It requires starting with master key, then switching
Guess Ill try with batt on charger and eliminate that possibility Before I attempt to do erase .
The log should have a failure Code possibly, but i didnt save it

It's been awhile since I programmed a set of keys but I know there were a few tricky models. I've even used the 3rd key with two masters with only 1 master. Be really quick with the key changes and lucky!

You're in the same boat as I am. I've been trying to get keys programmed with no luck. I've tried both FORScan and AutoEnginuity, and the process fails in both. I have some new information from AE (looking in a different section), and will let you know if I make any progress. It's possible, though, that Ford decided to bury the "add-a-key" process where these tools can't reach.
And I, too, am leery of erasing all the keys and starting over for the same reason you are. I also had the same idea as Rick above to try it in the dealership parking lot.

Submitted log to forscan people, they basically confirmed that on a lot of domestically sold vehicles of that era you will need to erase keys first , then it will enter a learning mode.
But my wife found our missing spare in her old
Slr camera case, so in 1 min I programmed a third key in the switch tonight. ☺

I'm going to have to do something, as I'm getting ready to install an alarm and remote start, and will have to program the bypass module.
Maybe I'll give it a shot?
