Default Programmer Vs Chip? Help please.

This might be a dumb question but I'd rather ask then just pretend I know and make a mistake. Are programmers and chips meant to be a one or the other kind of purchase? For best power and mpg can you purchase and use both or is that a waste of money? Sorry if this is stupid..gotta learn somehow though.

Yes...one or the other...can't use them both at the same time...a chip is 1 set program...a programmer holds several programs and allows you to modify them.
