Default Programmer Questions

Hi guys so I came to have a superchips flashpaq programmer for real cheap. I put it on and programmed to performance. My questions are for one is it ok to have a programmer on my truck that has 170000 miles? I knoticed it would shift harder and it kinda scared me so I took it off. Also it required for me to run 91 or about octane, is that neccesary? Thanks in advance

If it says it needs the octane, then yes run the octane suggested.

And no, a good tuner wont affect the longevity of an engine. Im not sure on the Superchips as I've never used that but I know on the SCT tuners you can adjust the transmission shifts yourself as well.

Yes it's fine. The harder shifting believe it or not will make your trans last longer under normal driving.
Ford from factory sets the computer to shift as smooth as possible by letting the torque converter slip a little more. What your programmer does is boosts line pressure so the torque converter doesn't slip as much. Making the shifts firmer.
Less torque converter slip means less heat which means a happier transmission.
As for the octane tune...doesn't your programmer have a lower octane tune? or you should be able to modify your spark advance to run the lower octane fuel.

Ya this one allowed you to change the shift points and firmness and a lot of other different options. I just felt like it was forcing my truck to much

Well it already has a programmable tunes like performance and before you would program it the tuner would ask and warn you about running the 91 octane or higher. So as for the shifting it's safe
