Depending which programmer you get, custom tunes are in the $60 per tune range. If you're struggling to get money for a programmer now, get one such as the Edge CS/CTS or SCT sf3 that can accept custom tunes later on down the road with no modifications and still have decent canned tunes.

PHP has a Gryphon version of the Edge CS for $440. Each custom tune is $30 as I understand it.

A regular Edge CS can be bought for $370.

The Edge CS/CTS doesn't have to be sent in to accept custom tunes. It uses Edge's Fusion to download tunes. Might as well save the money for the "Gryphon" version and get the Edge if custom tunes are in the future.

Something like the edge evo wouldn't be able to do all of that?

No. The monochrome Edge evo is no longer able to be converted to a Gryphon to accept custom tuning for the 97-03 F150s.

Before you buy a regular Edge Evolution, read about the power cord problems they had with them for the years 97-03.
That's why I decided to upgrade mine to the Edge CS, no problems with them.

That's a good point too, wouldn't want the programmer to kill the truck instead of help it.

What's the difference between the cs and the sct besides the cs having a color readout?

Slightly different strategies between the Edge and SCT platforms. SCT flashes and then is usually pulled out, the CS gives gauges.
