Yup, he would take the old oil from the oil change and spritz it all over the engine and compartment. My grandfather couldn't read anything so he decided to wash it.

That was the last day that truck ran.

I wouldn't powerwash it. When I wash a warm engine I use Simple Green and garden hose turned down to a trickle. Avoiding the area with coils, alternator and all electronics or covering them with plastic. I start the engine when I'm done and leave it running while I wash the truck.

DO NOT CLEAN YOUR ENGINE WITH WATER!!!! these trucks are known for losing the COP's after washing the engine! Trust me I KNOW!!!! ended up replacing all 8 because water was standing in the plug holes and i lightly sprayed mine with a water hose! Just take the extra time with a rag and some simple green like they said. An hour worth of detailing will make up for Many hours, many dollars, and many cut knuckles from changing the COP's.

At $35-$45 a pop on the COP Is it really worth the risk to find out who is right and wrong on this one?

Do what ever you're comfortable with. There will always be different opinions about this. I mostly use the water on the block firewall and fender liners, not so much on the top end. But I do give it a quick rinse.
