Default I need help with keyless entry, please

hey everybody, have an issue that I cant seem to figure out or fix. my 98 f150 xlt has power locks, and they lock on their own once the truck is started, even though the truck is still in park, and they unlock again once the truck it put back in park when you are done driving it. it didnt come with the factory key fob for the keyless, so i bought a new one off of ebay, and i have looked up the instructions to reprogram it, however the instructions dont work as stated. the key fob also came with instructions (identical to ones i have found online) I tried the reprogram 5-10 times, with no luck. just wondering what could be the issue as to why the fob wont accept the program. wondering if i possibly have an aftermarket alarm, or keyless installed. i havent had a chance to look under the dash or anything to snoop around just yet, so just seeing if anybody has any other ideas.

thanks

Do you have the key pad on the drivers door, if not you have electric locks but not keyless entry. What year, engine, and style is your truck, I will put the wiring diagram on here so I can make sure.

no key pad on door. info of the truck is:

1998 F150 XLT extended cab w/ 3rd door option
4.6 motor
has all options but leather and power seat, figured keyless would be included

also an edit to original post, locks lock automatically once the key is even turned forward, and doesnt even have to be started.

Sounds like an after market system to me. Pretty typical for the locks to lock once in acc mode then unlock when off with a non factory alarm system.
My 97 XLT ext cab 4.6...(virtually the same as yours) has factory keyless entry. The doors lock when its in drive and I think 10mph. Not entirely sure, I've only had the truck for a few weeks. The doors do not unlock when the key is turned off. Not until the door is opened.

To be sure, look under your dash at the left side of the steering column. Find the thick red and yellow wires. Look for one of those or another thick wire in that harness to have two wires spliced into it, then follow those wires to the source and you may find the alarm module. Then you can get the alarm serial number and order a new remote.

as dumb as it sounds, i'd rather just somehow get OEM ford alarm/keyless put into the truck. wondering if i can just install the keyless/alarm module and then disable the aftermarket setup, and it be just like it should be from the factory

update to the situation:

noticed there is a label mounted on fan shroud that the truck once had a remote starter on it, and that is most likely why the locks act like they do. what I am trying to figure out how to do is figure out what wires are not factory, and remove them. once the after market stuff is pulled, i am wanting to put in a factory style remote keyless system. problem is, I dont know where to look for the info to determine what is factory and what is not. also, not sure of EVERYTHING i need to put the factory keyless system back in place. any and all help would be appreciated
