Default Head Gaskets...what else while I'm there?

Getting ready to do head gaskets on my 135k mile 97 - 4.6 - 4wd. What else do you guys recommend addressing while it's this far apart?

Well not unlimited......wanna do it right because It's still a nice truck and I wanna drive it for at least another 100k.
  • Parts off the top of my head:
  • Head gasket kit
  • head bolts
  • Timing components (chain, guides, tensioners)
  • lifters
  • Maybe have heads cleaned up if needed
  • Clean injectors
  • Spark plugs

Also going to through in a set of PI cams I picked up.....from what I've read, pretty easy way to pick up 10-15 hp.

Should be able to keep it all under $1k since I'm doing it all myself. Got access to a lift so I'm going to remove the cab to make the job easier.

Anything I'm missing?......appreciate the help.

Put head studs in instead of bolts. Arp makes a good set.

You could also go with PI heads.

Good idea on the studs. Didn't want to do heads and raise compression.
