Plugged up cats????
Has anyone heard of this? I took my truck in to a shop and the first thing the guy did was hook it up to a reader to see if I was throwing any codes. No codes. My main reason for coming in was because I thought I had a problem with my coils, which I was wrong. So the next thing he does is he goes to the back of my truck and puts his hand right in front of my tail pipe and tells me to give it gas. After a couple times he tells me to switch. You can barely feel anything coming out of my exhaust at all.
So with that being said, the guy seems to think that my cats are clogged and then proceeded to quote me 1700 dollars for the parts and labor. Is there any way that I could just take my truck to an exhaust shop, have them weld on some new cats and not have it cost me this much money? I was thinking about just getting magnaflow hi-flow cats. Just let me know what I can do guys.

I would make sure there is no air inlet obstructions, make sure the throttle body is openning and there are no air blockages. Cats can become clogged but it is somewhat uncommon. I have a 2000 f150, no problems with stock cats. Probably a lot cheaper to weld in new cats as suggested. There may be 2 or 4 on the truck so you might want to check which one is clogged.
yea 1700 sound really high!!! try this instead, good luck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...Q5fAccessories
