Long tubes are the way to go for power, the install is not going to be much harder over shorties.

If you want deep and loud, cutout your muffler and piping, and run like a 4" pipe from the cats back to the tip. It'll only cost you like 120 bucks in parts, and a welder. You won't throw any codes or have to deal with awful exhaust manifold bolts.

haha. Ive never seen that done on a gasoline truck before. Sounds interesting though.

heh my shop had a '91 F150 at one point with the 5.0...I know it's old...but the exhaust broke just before the muffler and it actually sounded quite good. Better than the boss' '05 Screw 4.6 with the fancy Magnaflow stainless catback system. I decided to simply install a piece of pipe where the muffler was to be in the '91, always sounded quite nice, not loud but throaty and deep.

I had a friend that did that with his old f150. It did sound pretty good.

Yeah, even with cat removing the muffler makes a good amount of noise. I heard a straitpiped 06 but it honestly wasnt very loud. Older ones seem much louder.
