I want to paint my subframe a grey color. Mainly for looks but also for protection against rust. My frame has a good bit of rust but no damage yet so I wanna get to it before I get holes in my frame. Do I just get all the rust off the a grinder and then put POR15 on it and then paint over that?

 

Por15 will strip off if you put it on bare metal,ask me how I know.
Get all the rust off with a grinding wheel and paint it with vht chassis paint

 

What is POR-15 meant to be used for?

 

will the vht paint get chipped off easily or will it last for a while?

Oh so in other words you're supposed to just put it on top of the rust.

 

Yup,or use a metal treatment. I cleaned my under body down to shiny metal,stripped the old paint and it just peeled off in no time. Took my drive shaft down as far as possible but it still has a little rust and held up until the truck snapped it in half lol

 

I just got back from home depot with wire wheels, but I realize now I need to buy a corded drill or else i'll be charging my batteries more than I'll be working...

I went to autozone and it seems the chasis paint by VHT only comes in black. Is there a paint that is good for chassis that comes in metallic grey?
