Default Painting

I'm thinking of painting my dash and door panels black. My two questions are what sort of paint should I use (gloss, flat or whatever), and how would the paint look on the softer pieces like around the handles and the handleI use to pull the door shut. Thanks for all input forum.

There are a couple of threads on this from a couple weeks back. Use a plastic paint, like Krylon Fusion. I am planning on doing this soon also, and I will be using matte black paint. I think gloss would get too shiny when the sun is on it. I am planning on doing my A-Pillars, the radio surround, and the small piece behind the handles to open the door.

I have seen a few people who have done it, my personal opinion is to use the a flat black.

- Gloss will glare the out of your windshield.
- If you screw up alittle its alot easier to touch it up with flat
- If you arn't the best at painting it will make you look like you know what your doing.

Its all in the prep, since the panels on a F150 are textured you probably don't need to sand the plastic but I would highly suggest using krylon fusion. Just make sure you wipe down all the painting areas with acetone and let dry.

Good luck! Ill try and find the guy who pained his dash, he had some nice photos.

Here is someone who painted gloss, a flat or matte black will look just like how your current color is, just black.... obviously...

regardless of what kind of paint you use(matte or gloss), everytime i paint anything that has been wiped with armor all or anything like that, then i always rub it down with wax and grease remover. after i get it clean, i sand it with 600grit and give it a coat of bulldog, and here lately ive been using etch primer instead . ive een having good luck with duplicolor paint that u get at oreilys, they can match your paint code. but i always use regular clearcoat sprayed thru a gun. this will work for anything thats plastic. and i kno someone is gonna call me on the etch primer, its for use with bare metal, but i have always used it with new plastic bumpers, never had one chip or peel.
