Default p0171 and p0174 codes

i hope someone can help solve the mystery. my SES light came on rite after having the head gaskets,vc gaskets, intake gaskets and exhaust man gaskets replaced. since then i replaced,
-fuel filter-sparkplugs-all 4 02s-egr valve-egr pressure sensor(dpfe)-had vacuum system smoked twice by 2 diffrent mechanics-cleaned mas-cleaned throttle body-tested fuel pressure.
still no luck fixing the problem.....

what would the next possible cause be, maybe a new mas, or ecm??? any thoughts or expertise would be greatly appreciated. i have been throwing parts and money at this thing since i bought it 3 months ago and would really be relieved if i could get it fixed without needing to take out a second mortgage. thanx

I posted a response to your earlier post. Did you have the work done at a dealer? If so, it's possible that a PCM reflash (about $80) would work too. An Edge Evo programmer, with an embedded level 2 program (as recommended by a member here) did the trick. That was a $360 solution, but new plugs, wires, IAC, smoke test, etc alone did NOT fix the lean condition. Newer programmers allow you to customize settings, BTW.

i did have it done at a dealer,it was at a chrysler dealer since it has a chrysler warranty, very dumb to me but i guess since i bought it from a dodge dealer.... i finally got in touch with the service rep from where i had the work done, after an hour of arguing about it they are going to double check the work they did since that is when the problem started. i am thinking maybe the intake has a small crack or they may have messed up the fuel injectors or fuel rail in some way. not sure. it just seems odd to have this problem as soon as i had the engine work done.

but i will definatly take your advice warspite and have the pcm checked if not reflashed, thanks for the info..

Replaced my exhaust manifolds and had much of the same issues plus po401 that screwed me.
What worked for me was replacing the vacuum tubes. The angled one on the intake leaked but did not show on a smoke test. All of the new tubes also got a wire tie on where the connect. The small ones that connect to the Egr and the Egr solenoid got some clear silicone caulking where the tube enters the fitting. After that I drove 2 x about 25 miles each with no lights no pending codes an my computer program said that it was ready for emissions testing.
I replaced everything that you did but what I listed above worked for me. The tubes in the back of the intake looked ok but they were changed and wire tied.

Did you replace the Isolator bolts? These are known to cause vacuum leaks. I have a pack of 8 I am getting put in my truck after thanksgiving. Right now my truck runs like crap. When I start it up, it idles at about 1k rpms, but as it drops a little it will start surging from 500-1000rpms (causing a lurching truck, unless you mash the brakes hard). Putting it in Park or Neutral will cause the problem to go away some but not completely. It used to be when the engine got warm it ran smooth, now I still feel some surging when I am at a stop light or drive thru.

i dont think they were replaced, i had the work done by a dealer. i will have to see if i can get in contact with them to see if they were replaced or not. my guess is they didnt.
my truck seems to be running pretty well, but every once in a while i have the surging as you mentioned, but not often at all. also it seems to drop in rpms when at a stop, but luckily it hasnt stalled yet. another thing i noticed is it seems to lack in power when pulling out, once the rpms are up it seems normal.

update..... took it back to dealer after fighting with them for 2 months to check over THEIR work. they found that it needed a new intake manifold and gasket,(gasket was replaced with previous work) put 60 miles on so far and no light, lets hope it stays this way. just thought i would let everyone know what fixed my issue (so far)..
