Default Overhead console?

Iv had my truck for about 2 years now but I never thought to ask. What's the overhead console for? I know it's got temp/compass and a sunglasses holder but what's the aft compartment for?

Garage door opener. You velcro it to the top. Then tyou pull the little white, square pegs out and stick them in the holes on the door (kinda like Lego pieces). You adjust the pegs so that pressing on the closed door makes the peg hit the button on your opener. It was sort of the precursor to Homelink.

I still had all the OEM legos for mine! Have to get the thing realigned. Need to get a new battery for the opener...

You can put the 3 button Homelink into that panel also. I've seen where you remove the drop down holder, and drill your 3 hole for the buttons to work. Then you wire into the 12v at the front for your power and you are finished. Install the cover back into it's place.

The one's I've seen use the Homelink from sun visors. You can get it from a load of different vehicles and it will work. It is a simple 2 wire system. Power and ground, so it doesn't take much to install. The hardest part is the 3 holes, but with the cover plate, you don't have to be perfect for it to look professional. Some have used it in the new Mustang's and F150's with no problems.
