Default Overhead console

I have a 2002 f150 xlt and the overhead console that tells the temp and compass went out some years ago. I want to get it working again. Is it just a burnt out fuse, or do I have to replace something else. On mechanic told me I had to replace the whole mother board. What do you guys think.

9 times out of 10, it's a cold solder joint on the display portion of the board. Remove it, disassemble the unit, and you can visually inspect the soldering on the board itself - and a cold solder joint will be obvious (separated from the board itself).

A picture tells a thousand words. I don't have that console, but was looking to add one - and I saw that post. Just don't use such a large soldering tip.
