Overdrive switch not working
The shifter handle wiring sometimes goes bad inside. Also check wiring under the steering column trim. Replacement shifter handles come prewired with switch. If the wiring is broken may have blown the fuse shifter and column would be a dead short to ground. I would look at the wiring on top of the column near the shift handle!

I've seen the wires break internally where it comes out of the shift handle underneath the plastic cover on the column, they break from all the bending after years of usage, and sometimes you can strip them back and repair them, just need care as they are very thin.
Good luck.
Kevin.
ps: some of these will still work if shifter is in park or reverse but not when pulled into drive.
Hey guys. Thanks for the advice. It was a simple fix...5A fuse was blown. I replaced it but let's see how long it lasts. If the wiring is frayed or broken somewhere I suspect the fuse will break again.

Does ur overdrive work or is it just the light thats out?
Also, i found out that this fuse also controls "Autolamp, instrument cluster, transmission
control indicator lamp and switch"
so if all other things are working, it would be safe to assume something else is messed up?
Thanks
