Overdrive not working, light blinking.
Alright guys, so my 4r70w behind my 5.4 decided yesterday it didn't like overdrive anymore. So then the light started blinking and it wouldn't shift into OD. So get home, go to work this morning and it's fine. Just wondering what you guys know about this, possibly a shift solenoid maybe? Read about others having a 1-2 , 3-4 gears having hard shifts with the OD light blinking. But mine is just no overdrive, but it was fine today. So I'm not sure. Hard to diagnose it if it isn't doing it anymore. Thanks guys.

My Mountaineer did that to me twice. The column shifter was going a little too far and it would go right between D and 2. I called my transmission Buddy while it was happening and he knew exactly what it was. I shut the truck off and it shifted normal again. To clear the O/D light, I disconnected the battery for a period of time.... seems like 30 minutes, but there was no rhyme or reason to that. Anyway, it cleared up until the next time I did it. Same procedure resolved it too.
I always thought that thing had a wonky rooster comb, but I never checked it - and it's long gone now.

Thanks guys, and I REALLY need to tighten my shifter, just 2 torx bolts but keeps slipping out of my schedule haha. But I'll do that, reset the battery. Should be all good after that. Thanks again!! Hasn't done it the past few days but we will see, I will get all of this done tomorrow and hopefully that will be all.

Mine did that once bc i was just a tad low on tranny fluid. A cooling line was leaking the day after i replaced the radiator.
