The od light flashing is the transmission throwing a code, you could use a programmer or a code reader to look it up. Or disconnect your battery for 10 mins drive it and see if it comes back on.

Does the truck still drive fine?

I don't mean to steal the thread from the OP, but I feel like this is along the same lines.
What if your OD light is always on would that be sign of the transmission throwing a code? I don't have the end cap on my gear select and always that that's what caused the issue.

From what I understand, the od light means od is off, aka haul mode where it won't shift to the highway gear so it won't mess up the trans. I could be way off on this, but that's my current understanding, correct me if I'm wrong.

I also think that it should reset after you shut it off and start the truck again, shouldn't it? If it is always on then treat it like a cel and get it figured out. Disconnecting the battery is just putting off the inevitable, if it threw a code, it means something is wrong, and just resetting the codes will hardly ever result in it going away.

I had that problem with my 94 f-150 it started to blink on me i replaced the button with one from the junk yard. It stopped blinking all was good. When it was blinking i didnt notice anything different when it was blinking.
I dont know if the od button is the same on 97 to 03 as to 94

I had this same issue once, turned out the shift lever was halfway between overdrive and regular drive. When I adjusted the shifter and cycled the ignition, it went away.

Thanks for the update. Not too bad considering replacing the fluid is $150 itself.

Od light blinking is nearly (99%) of the time an electronic fault in the trans.

I was quoted $300-400 for this too, but decided to clear the code and and see if it came back first. Hasn't come back yet.
