Oil usage on 5.4
My wife has a 03 F150 super crew 4x2. I use the Mobile One 5w-20 fully sythetic. Seems that the truck will use around 2 quarts in 5k miles. Is this normal? Truck has no leaks, never raced, wrecked, or anything out of the normal. No smoke or anything.

Kip, how many miles does your truck have?
Mine uses about 1/2-1 quart every 3k miles, non-synthetic 5-20w. (2002 5.4l 155,000 miles). I think a little oil usage is normal with these trucks. Mine has used that much since I got it, at around 80k miles. the harder I drive the more it uses. All things considered I love this truck, I think it very well may be the best pickup I've ever owned. (Fuel economy aside.)

I have a '02 f-150 with 89k and i also do not use any oil and I rod the hell out of her and never need to and any oil you might have problems in your valve train leaking small amount of oil and buy the time it goes though the exhaust no smoke
05, none to date. oil changes every 5000 km. wife's 00 5.4 expedition used to go througha little oil due to a leaking head gasket. ford said that it's a problem on the 97-03 5.4's. apparently when the machining of the block takes place, the grinding stone comes to the end of the block and makes a little chamfer (divet) and the head gasket leaks at this divet. it didn't go through alot of oil, it was more of an annoyance, you'de get a waft of oil smell in the cab whenever you stopped. as long as you were moving ,no smell.

it was at ford last year for a new head gasket and it seems to be holding out well. they did give me a year's warranty in case it happened again, the years about up so we'll see. you would'nt lose a cup of oil between changes. it was basically the smell that drove me nuts.
Okay, I know this is going to sound like BS, but my truck has STOPPED using oil like it did back around 110k miles, I don't know why, just reporting on what I'm seeing. Could it be that the rings have re-seated?????
I have 160k on the odo now and am barely noticing any oil usage
