Default Oil Pressure Problems

Hi all, first time poster.

I purchased a 97 F150 about 1 year ago, no problems until now. It has 240000km, engine rebuilt 65000km ago. The truck has a problem with the oil pressure guage jumping from the center while I am not accelerating in gear (R,D4,2,1). So if I brake at a light it will start jumping - if the truck is cold it will take 15 minutes of driving before this starts.

It sometimes makes a strange ticking noise while driving, the faster I accelerate the faster the ticking noise. I'm not sure if this is a seperate problem, but it only started since the oil pressure guage started acting weird.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

You may need to look at different oil or check your oil pump.

What type and weight of oil are you using? The gauge could be as simple as a loose electrical connection between the wire and the oil pressure sensor. Start there first.

Don't listen to them they have no clue. There is a little Gnome in the engine that is pissed off and he us using a hammer to show his displeasure.. Other than that put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the truck and see what its reading. I don't trust the OEM gauges.

Yes when it comes to irradic oil pressure, defintly put a manuel guage on and see what the pressure really is,if the gauge reads normal then you probly have a bad sending unit, but with ticking noise you might have a clogged pickup screen or other problem.
