I run castorol edge full synthetic 5w30 in all of my vehicles with a KnN or Mobile 1 oil filter but I may switch back to a motorcraft as I have developed a slight knock at start up...

Oh how I do miss the good old days when practically every Ford used a FRAM PH-8A.... Took away any guess work when I had an 87 F150 with a 302, a 71 Pinto with a 2.o, and a 76 F350 with a 460 all in the driveway at the same time! Just buy 3 of the same filter and no worries about mixing them up! LMAO!

Make sure if you get Fram, get the Tough Guard one. Fram TG2. Its the only fram with a good anti-drainback valve.

I would strongly suggest against any Fram filter. I've personally cut filters apart to inspect how they're constructed and I don't put Fram on any of my vehicles. There's very little filter media, gaps in the end caps which let unfiltered oil and particles past, etc. Good new is, it won't burst.... really... that's the only quality control they do, and all they advertise on their commercials. (although my friend had one burst on his race car)

K&N actually filters less because it's designed for high flow, so it doesn't catch as small a particle as others.

Wix, Purolator, Napa Gold, Motorcraft are all good filters. I would go with the Motorcraft myself. For the money it is the best bang. Its guts are Pure1 but at about $2 cheaper than the actual Pure1.

Oil? I don't want to start a debate on oil. I believe in synthetic oils. Blends leave a lot to be desired because they're not a 50/50. Some blends are as little as 10% synthetic! I have 190k on my 4.6l and have run Mobil 1 and Motorcraft filters since it had 30k (when i bought it). From what I've read, Castrol starts with a mineral oil base. I don't like this. Mobil 1 is pure synthetic. Pennzoil synthetic is also supposed to be good.

Now, conventional oil will lubricate your engine and you'll get decent mileage out of it. But, why not get more? Synthetic lubricates better, hands down. There's no argument to this. So, if you're gonna keep your truck til the Rust Gods claim it, you'll benefit greatly from synthetic.

I can understand if you can't afford the synthetic. It's a bit pricy. You do what you have to and just change it regularly. I hope this helps.
