Default Odometer and tripometer quit

Dad gave me his 1997 f150 4x4 super cab that has 150k on it... On his 400 mile trip up to Iowa the odometer and the tripometer quit... Where do I begin? Speedometer still works...
Thanks
Aaron

Ps it is analog type and not digital

Pull cluster down, the older analog dials sometimes would get stuck during trip reset mode. Might try resetting several times before tear down.

You are right. I pasted the wrong thread. It was from another site, which I can't find now, and some how I pasted the current one. Sorry. I'll find it and repost the correct link.

Does your odometer try to move but doesn't roll? The white gear on the back of the analog (mechanical) odometers sometimes round off a bit and won't make contact with the other gear that rolls the odometer. That part itself is not available from Ford or anywhere else. On an old Maverick I had, I took the odometer roller from a Granada and replace it that way. I couldn't find another speedometer at the time. It wasn't easy either, since Ford presses their odometer roller into the housing.

I have exactly the same problem and have tried depressing the trip reset many, many times. When it first went south, I could depress a few times and then it would track fine, now nothing. It stays on all 00000. Can anyone make a suggestion on how to fix? Thank you in advance and have a great day.

analog odometer/trip meter has plastic gears. One of the gears is known to fail. Mine failed at 50k miles. If you remove the instrument cluster, you will most likely see a torn gear. I got mine fabricated at a car repair shop that had a gear fabricator. It's a plastic mounding machine.

Does anyone know if these are by any chance the same ones as the mustang? 50resto makes a repair kit since this was a common problem on them.
