Default odometer question

What on a 1997 F-150 holds the memory of the milage of the vehicle I recently changed the cab on my 97 flareside truck and now my gauge package is reading 300,000 instead of the 180,000 km's that the truck actually has I tried putting my old guages in and still coming up 300,000 it must be recorded in something else can anyone help me out. Thanks

The vehicle that has the PCM will retain the memory of the mileage.

But at least it is three years newer then I first thought better for me sorry for the confusion

ah okay - bottom line is you have to get the stealership to reprogram the cluster/pcm when you change them. It sucks but that's the only way I think

I'm heading to Ford today on another issue, will ask them about its memory, 2000xl Toronto has a good point, but you put old speedo back in. Am totally confused?

From Ford service, keys, key cylinder, cluster and PCM all have to be from the same truck. Cannot interchange parts with out Ford doing its thing. Its all part of the anti theft stuff.

oK thanks guys I guess I will stick with the 300,000 odometer reading cluster sounds like alot of work to get it changed back to the milage the truck really has.
Thanks again
