I'd say its a big bargaining chip, plus causes worries. You dont know how much mileage is on it, have to wonder how much really is on it. It could be something minor such as 150 miles, but it also could be as big as 150,000. A lot of wear and issues can happen in 150,000 miles, so be wary as possible because you never know what you're getting into. That's why my dad being a dealer never messes with those vehicles.

If these are Mechanical Odometers, wouldn't the likely cause be the cheap worm-gear Ford installs. I say this because I just purchased a 97 Scab with the Trip Odometer not working. Actual mileage was/is off 2K miles. Replaced the worm-gear, all fine now.

The mileage on my truck is marked as exempt, this is because the mileage display doesn't always work. It records the mileage still but a cold solder causes it to not display. As long as you can see the odometer come on at some point and see it gaining miles I wouldn't let that stop you from buying the truck. Also it's a fix it yourself deal, you can fix it in an afternoon.

That seems to be a common problem on these trucks.

It is very very common. I'd go out on a limb and say half 10th gens have this issue,or if they don't they have the same issue in the temp. display. Never go to a dealership over this issue, they won't fix it they'll make you buy a whole new unit then probably charge what your truck is worth to install it lol. A $10 soldering iron is all you need.

I'm assuming that's if you've broken into your dash before,I haven't. I want to swap in blue leds too,but I've heard of a few people screwing up their gauge cluster so i'm waiting until I've got a whole day so I can take my time. I'm gonna swap all my lights to blue like you did,if you had to guess how much time did you have into that?

I did a how-to on fixing the odometer and showed every step of taking the dash apart to do it. Took me an hour with taking pics.

I had a while in the color change cause I took a lot of breaks. And it is very high risk, not many have done it right even with my guide

Probably more like 10% of our model trucks have this issue. It seems more common since repairing it is not something everyone is capable of without searching the internet.

You don't hear from 90% of the owners that never have this issue.

But yes, it is common.

My friends 02 and my dads 03 both had this issue. My truck is an 05 and has this issue, not sure if the fix is the same though.
