Default odometer blinks

Hey everyone, this is my first post. Let me start off by saying that I have learned a lot from all your post's about my 2000 f150, so thanks for that. OK so as I am driving my odometer will just shut off or blink off for a short period of time then come back on like nothing happened. I have unplugged my battery several times to clear any codes in the computer.. Which the only code it's ever thrown is for the "back right o2 sensor" which I fixed. I tried to put in a new cluster that I got, but when I installed it and closed everything up, the truck wouldn't start, power came on but didn't turn over. So 2 questions... Why is my odometer blinking? And how can I use my other cluster? My original cluster is plain, the other has RPMs

bad solders on the odometer it's very common. To fix it you take it out and resolder the joints.http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/19...lem-fixed.html

By "shut off" do you mean the lights, or it completely stops working, it shows you at 0 mph while going down the road?

You have to get the new cluster programer by the dealership. If you want to use it. It's part of PATS (Passive Anti Theft System)

So it's just the odometer lights that shut off, everything else works fine.. So the odometer goes blank for a few minutes then comes back on.

Just repair the cluster. Solder up the bad contacts. Fixed! No need to replace anything. Use the forum, there are threads on cluster repairs.

"Tap test" will tell you if it's the soldering contacts.

Tap the dash, that is.

I had the same problem, fortunately, it went away by itself, but over time, it'll come back.

It's just the display.
