Default OBD2 Wont Read Codes

I’m out of ideas, hoping someone can help with this. Truck will not start but will turn over. When I plug the code reader into the OBD2 port the code reader will power up but then I’ll get an error saying that the reader is unable to connect and I’ve tried 3 different code readers. The cigarette/accessory plugs work and ive pulled every fuse to make sure they were good. Anyone have an idea what to try next? Bad PCM maybe?

Sounds like a very possible scenario to me. Do you have spark, and are you getting fuel injectors firing?

It's getting fuel, not sure about spark. I just checked the fuses again and still can't get a connection between the reader and the truck.

When you turn the key on does the odometer show the mileage or dashes?
Also check the relay for the PCM.

It shows all dashes when you turn the key on and leave it in the run position.

Ok the PCM isn't powering up. If you don't have an owners manual click the link in my sig and download one. The fuse and relay chart will be under roadside assistant. Check the relay. You can swap it with one of the other relays except the fuel pump.

A little more background would help, such as what lead up to this problem. or any other things that don't work and recent problems.

I'm checking the relays right now. As far as background, I'm going to be honest I bought the truck from a guy that said the "engine doesn't have compression". This truck is going to be my 4BT swap truck but I went to check the codes and can't get it to read. I don't want to pull the engine until I can get the OBD2 to read the fault codes (if that makes any sense).

Mark the relays off the list.

Ok an unknown. Next step would be get a Haines or chitons manual and start checking the wiring harness. See if your getting power to the PCM. either of those manuals should have wiring diagrams in them.
