Default No overdrive

I have a 97 f150 4X4 4.6 unknown trans (that would be useful info to have) It does not have overdrive, shifts fine but no OD, what would be a common cause? sensor somewhere? Also if theres a way to find out what trans I have I'd like to hear it, as that would make diagnosis easier.

Is it an auto or a manual? If its auto you should have a 4 speed, with the 4th gear being O/D

Check your VIN tag on the drivers door rear pillar. It will list the transmission code and you or the group can tell you what you have. You most likely have the 4w70R trans in 97 with the 4.6. Use the listed link below to find your transmission model. Good luck.

It's a 4R70W. Not the 4w70r as stated above. lol Does your o/d light on your shifter blink?
Does it light up when you push it well the trucks running?

Excuse me for having happy fingers. The link I posted showed the W code, and I typed R by mistake.

Now for your mistake......It's either "while or when" you push in the button not "well" so we are even.

If it just "neutrals" when you go into 4th gear, the front band in the trans is prolly gone.
