Default New here

I just picked up a 97 f150 with a bad 4.2 in it,is there anything else that came with a 4.2 that would fit?
I can get a 302 for free but what all needs to be done to make it work?
Would the trans work with the 302?
the 302 would be changed to carb so I would be messing with the computer.

That sounds entirely to complicated if at all possible.

How is it to complicated? If at all possible?
My first question was is there anything else that came with a 4.2 that would work.
Then my next question about the 302 people do it all the time I just never have in a f150 this new.

I meant no disrespect.
My main concern was with the issues that would arise with the computer, but anything is possible with the right amount of time and money that can be put into it.

well all I really want to do is find out what other 4.2's have the same block and heads so I can just swap some parts over and put it back together.
so computer would be no problem like that.
I still will get the 302 but it would be for a later swap if I need it.

I think they are...I have heard of people switching the 97 4.2's with the 01's or 02's but no personal experience with it.

Good luck
