Default New guy needs help.

Hey guy's i have been reading on here for a while just never registered until now. My wife bought a 2002 ford f-150 about a month ago, nice truck low miles. Well about a week ago she calls me at work and says that the truck wont start. I asked her to be more specific and she said it was spinning over but wouldnt crank. So i told he to flip the key over and try it, then it fired right up. Well since then it has done it a couple of times but now it is just spinning over all the time and you have to pull the park lever all the way over like hard up in park and hold it to get it to start now. I was thinking at first maybe the key was going bad becuase it started when she flipped it but now the pulling up on the shifter makes is fire. Is it just a fluke or is there something else worng. Another question is would the park safety switch let it spin over and just not fire if it was all the way engaged? Thank you for the help.

Sounds like the shifter is out of adjustment, and a sensor isint reading it in park to let it start...

It would let it crank over then if the shifter was not aligned properly? Just wouldnt let it fire.

First there are 2 torx bit screws that keep the shifter linkage tight. Look up under the dash (with a light) and while moving the shifter a little you will spot them. Tighten those to up if there loose and report back to us.
If it's not that it may be the neutral safety switch.....

Check for fuel at the rail, remove valve cap and press needle to see if gas spurts out. NO SMOKING! Sounds to me like pump is out.
